Complex Fracture Reconstruction

Personalized Recovery Plans

Foot & Ankle Fracture Expertise

Advanced subspecialty training in complex foot and ankle conditions, including fractures and reconstructive surgery.

Treatment of ankle, talus, calcaneus, Lisfranc, Jones, pilon, and other foot and ankle fractures.

Surgical management focused on restoring alignment, joint stability, and long-term foot and ankle function.

Post-treatment plans tailored to the specific fracture, procedure, activity level, and recovery goals.

Conditions We Treat

Ankle Fractures

Fractures involving the lateral malleolus, medial malleolus, posterior malleolus, or multiple parts of the ankle joint.

Ankle Fracture-Dislocations

Severe injuries in which a fracture occurs together with loss of normal alignment of the ankle joint.

Pilon Fractures

Complex fractures involving the lower end of the tibia and the weight-bearing surface of the ankle joint.

Bimalleolar & Trimalleolar Ankle Fractures

More complex ankle fractures involving two or three components of the ankle that frequently require evaluation for instability and possible surgical fixation.

Syndesmotic Injuries

Injuries to the ligaments connecting the tibia and fibula may occur with an ankle fracture and can significantly affect ankle stability.

Talus Fractures

Fractures of the talus can affect several important joints of the foot and ankle and require careful evaluation because of the bone's unique anatomy and blood supply.

Calcaneus Fractures

Fractures of the heel bone can alter the alignment and mechanics of the hindfoot and may involve the subtalar joint.

Lisfranc Fractures & Dislocations

Injuries involving the midfoot joints and ligaments can range from subtle instability to major fracture-dislocations.

Stress Fractures

Overuse injuries that can range from low-risk fractures treated with rest and protection to high-risk fractures that may require surgical treatment.

Jones & Fifth Metatarsal Fractures

Fractures involving the fifth metatarsal range from avulsion injuries to Jones fractures, which can have an increased risk of delayed healing or nonunion.

Fracture Nonunion, Malunion & Revision Surgery

Some fractures fail to heal properly or heal in an abnormal position. Revision treatment may involve restoring alignment, improving stability, bone grafting, or other reconstructive techniques.

5th Metatarsal Fractures

Fifth metatarsal fractures occur along the outer border of the foot and can range from small avulsion fractures to Jones fractures, which have a higher risk of delayed healing or nonunion. Treatment depends on the fracture location, displacement, activity level, and healing potential.

How We Treat Foot & Ankle Injuries
Treatment depends on the specific fracture, its location, displacement, stability, joint involvement, and the patient’s activity level.

Nonsurgical Treatment

Stable, well-aligned fractures may be treated with a cast, boot, protected weight bearing, activity modification, and close follow-up imaging.

Minimally Invasive & Arthroscopic-Assisted Fracture Surgery

Selected foot and ankle fractures can be treated using minimally invasive techniques or arthroscopic assistance to improve visualization of the joint, assess cartilage and ligament injury, and help restore alignment while limiting soft-tissue disruption when appropriate.

Sports-Related Foot & Ankle Fracture Care

Athletes with foot and ankle fractures require treatment that considers not only fracture healing, but also joint stability, biomechanics, strength, and a safe return to sport. Treatment plans are tailored to the specific injury, sport, competitive level, and performance goals.

Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF)

Displaced or unstable fractures may require surgery to restore alignment and stabilize the bone with plates, screws, or other fixation.

Intramedullary Screw Fixation

Certain fractures, particularly Jones fractures, may be treated with an intramedullary screw to provide stable fixation and promote healing.

Complex Fracture Reconstruction

Pilon, talus, calcaneus, Lisfranc, and fracture-dislocation injuries may require more advanced reconstruction to restore joint alignment and foot and ankle mechanics.

What Patients are Saying

Debbie H

“Dr. Desai is the absolute best! He
listens, he cares and he is smart. He explains everything. He is the only surgeon I trusted to do my recent surgery. My husband has had 2 surgeries. Each was straightforward just as he described. Love him!"

Randy W

"The minute Dr. Desai walked into the room to assess my broken ankle for surgery I immediately felt at ease and knew I had just met the right doctor for my needs."

TexasBorn B

“I shattered my heel and got in within three days to talk to Dr Sarang. He is very honest, which I appreciate. He listened and was able to address all the thoughts and questions I didn't even know I had. For me, he decided not to do surgery based on how the bones are line up. To me, that shows the patient's well being means more than doing a surgery I'm sure most would have done.”
